157 – A List

  1. I still have 5 weeks left on crutches. Initially when I was given the go-ahead to remove the boot, I was so ecstatic. Yesterday though, that wore off. It is still unbelievably difficult to accomplish even the simplest of tasks. Of course being able to use my foot really is a very large improvement, but the high of it has worn off. Easily the hardest aspect is that I can’t take my daughter to her first day of school, nor can I do pick-up and drop-off for a long time. While her school is close to home, it wouldn’t be safe for me to be the sole adult in charge. And so, Bryan will take care of the school stuff until I’m able. I’m miserable about this, but what can we do? In time things will get better.
  2. Beauty and the Beast was released from the Disney vault again, and my sweetie-pie of a husband picked it up for me yesterday. Any time a Disney movie is released or re-released I get excited, but BatB is so special. I’ve already plowed through the bonus features and I’m thinking that later on Ginny and I will watch the movie together. I hope she doesn’t mind my dreadful French accent because y’all know I’m going to be singing along with Lumiere at the top of my lungs.
  3. Ginny still refuses to poop in the potty. ARGH.
  4. I sleep much better now that the boot is off. I can curl up in a ball! It’s lovely. Though, I still wake up frequently to roll over, which is a big production. Still, I seem to fall asleep fairly quickly which makes up for it.
  5. Bryan and I have been watching Star Trek Voyager and I LOVE IT. Captain Kathryn Janeway is amazing. She is a female starship captain, yet no one (or rarely anyone – I’m looking at you, Q) makes a fuss about it. She is level headed and calm in emergencies. She listens to the advice of her crew and isn’t too proud to admit when she’s wrong. She thinks before she acts and is a good leader. She is proficient in all areas of work on her ship. She’s just so freaking cool.
  6. We’re heading to Winnipeg in a few weeks for Thanksgiving. I’m really looking forward to this, though I am also a but nervous as I’ll still be on crutches. My parents’ house has stairs so that could be annoying. It also means we might not go to the zoo, as we would need to rent a wheelchair or scooter. I’m sure my walking will be pretty good by then, but trudging through a massive zoo for several hours will absolutely be beyond me. I’m looking forward to seeing my Grandma who will be turning 97 in October! She is an amazing role model.
  7. Bryan has seriously been the best husband since I broke my ankle. I mean obviously he’s always a good husband because he’s a good person, but he’s AMAZING right now. I’m not going to go into detail right now because I could talk about him for hours, but jeeze. What a man.
  8. I very seriously miss all my friends. Like from every part of my life. I miss my Vancouver friends (one of whom just had her second baby). I miss my PG friends. I miss my Toronto friends. I miss my Ash. I miss my camp friends who I grew distant from. I wish I could meet up with all these important people from throughout my life and give them a hug and let them know that I am always thinking of all of them, praying for them, and wishing them the best.
  9. American Horror Story. So American Horror Story is not a show for everyone. My experience with it began when I watched season 2, Asylum. It was AMAZING. And terrifying. And wow. And I loved it and will watch it again. Jessica Lange is wowza. Afterwards I checked out season 1, Murder House. Also good. I did not watch seasons 3, 4, or 5. Why? Season 3, while it had a very strong first episode, was too witchy. Which I mean, it’s called Coven and is about witches so duh, but I find dealings with demonic stuff – even fictional, inappropriate for me to watch. Season 4, Freak Show, was up my alley, but was too icky. And had a horrifying clown that I didn’t care to let haunt my dreams. Season 5, Hotel, seemed promising but I couldn’t even try an episode of that because it was TOO much. Too much of everything nasty and offensive and crazy. This brings us to season 6, Roanoke. First of all, the marketing for this season has been stellar. The theme of the season was not revealed until the premiere. Instead, the marketing team released a ton of little teasers, only one or two of which were actually connected to the show. I initially hadn’t been planning to watch the show, but this marketing sucked me in. I found a place to watch the premiere episode and I loved it. Shot in the style of a ghost huntery type show, it was really interesting and not too gory or anything. I can’t wait for episode 2.
  10. American Crime Story. Made by the same folks as American Horror Story, this is another anthology series but about, obviously, crime instead of horror. Only one season has been put out so far but it was incredible. It was subtitled The People vs OJ Simpson and it was so unbelievably well done. The casting was PERFECT. The portrayal of LA was stunning. The OJ trial is one of the earliest news stories I can remember, so it’s always been of interest to me (I also recently bought a true crime book about it), so getting to watch it played out like this was very interesting. The show also brought in a ton of Emmy awards the other night, which were all very well earned. I HIGHLY recommend this show. Bonus: David Schwimmer aka Ross from Friends plays Robert Kardashian (yes, papa to Kim, Kourtney, Khloe), and he is amaaaazing!!! Seriously, he was SO DANG GOOD!!!
  11. Well I guess that’s the end of this rando post. Just felt like updating but didn’t really feel like…thinking. Toodaloo.

156 – Almost Done

I’m in the last few days before my next doctor appointment, and I’m stoked and terrified. I have only a vague idea of what’s going to happen next, and I’m very nervous about the pain that will be involved with re-learning to walk. However, I’m glad that I’m moving on to the next step of recovery because I just really want to be finished with this. It’s been a crazy summer, guys.

Now, here’s some pictures! A lot are icky, so turn away now if you don’t want to see that.

The moments after the injury. Landlord is in the background calling an ambulance. That was as straight as I could make my foot.

Looks like I was packing a golf ball in there.

Waiting to see a doctor.

This is a few weeks in. Some bruising remained, as you can see. There was also a lot of darker bruising down on the foot.

My one and only attempt at church. My leg was so swollen by the end, I was miserable. In addition, I don’t like attention so having everyone come up and talk to me was stressful (though appreciated).

About halfway through. Looking much better!!

Happy lil’ incision.

This past Saturday. This was the day I realized I should have been using lotion. Oy. It has since gone from scaly to smooth.

You may not believe me, but I haven’t touched this leg with a razor since approx July 8. It’s definitely fuzzy, but blonde like crazy.

Look at ma skinny leg!
